Last year we began an exciting outdoor project with longtime clients. They were interested in completely redoing the backyard of their Maryland home. With two grown daughters and the birth of their first grandchild, they wanted their yard to be the go-to place for family gatherings.
The goals of the project were to completely redo the original existing in-ground swimming pool, to create a new covered eating area for six people and to create different areas for conversation and relaxation. The couple also wanted an outdoor fireplace and an area for watching television. When this project began, covid-19 was not even a consideration, but unknowingly, we also created the perfect areas for social distancing!
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, we want to share with you the pictures of this outdoor space that we had professional photographed by John Cole Photo this summer.
The pool and its “areas” have a resort feel. You’d never know there are neighbors just on the other side of the wood fence.
This pool and pavilion are a stone’s throw from the house.
Two steps lead to a small shaded table and the barbeque grill.
The covered pavilion is home to a dining table and seating for six, a comfortable seating area for two with a fun indoor/outdoor rug underneath, as well as a fireplace with a tv above. The television can also be seen from the pool!
The shallow end of the pool features a unique in-water sundeck with an umbrella covered area for two lounge chairs. We added decorative porcelain cobalt blue tiles as accents and also to differentiate this platform from the rest of the pool. Curved steps with the same cobalt blue accents lead into the pool. In the background are two additional lounge chairs for sun bathing.
This shows another vantage point of the pavilion and the shallow end of the pool.
Needless to say, our clients love their outdoor space! The space was put to good use this summer and even with the pandemic, they always had a place to go to “get away”. Although Fall is in full swing, they are still using the fireplace in the pavilion area on chilly nights as they reminisce on the wonderful memories made at their private resort.
